At work
Next door
is a diner and take out.
Once the close, they
rinse & repeat.
How appropriate

A tasty table
Our love for Alsace,
brought back home:
Meat loaf with Moutarde de truffe et poivre noir

A yawn is …
a silent scream for coffee

The church is, like before, a place of refuge
providing knowledge and contemplation.
This particular one is famous, bookstore inside
an old church building, repurposed and yet centre stage
it is the crowd-funded place to be
No room for Starbucks in our city of Maastricht
with this local roast by Blanche Dael and
coffee outlets run by the same family, handsomely providing a refuge,
combined with knowledge and contemplation,
near bookstore or university, or in the middle of a wealthy quarter.
Not just food for thought
but white chocolate cheescake with rasperry jam topping
to be honest,
comfier than many a church.

We are all in the gutter
but some of us are looking at the stars.
Oscar Wilde
The galaxies, from far far away
upon closer inspection
are merely light bulbs in fixtures
like so many things that look magic
from a distance
and up close
show a different reality
mind you, no less fancy
as frankly a clever and beautiful design has gone
into this fine piece of art
on our local American war cemetery
while, Nature, the closer you look at it
the further you zoom in
keeps
getting
fancier
and fancier.

Donnie & his dogs
Friendly Donnie was amused to learn about my hobby and immediately happy to pose for me, walking his tiny dogs in the park. Proudly mentioning his daughter in a working-visit at the nearby police station, she freshly graduated and will soon be up for political elections of the provincial government in March.
Good luck to her, and thanks Donnie for the charming poses!

Godelieve
Maastricht 3 dec 2022
After getting a ¨no, thanks¨ from some pedestrians if they were ok for me to make a portrait, local Godelieve kindly agreed to pose for me. ¨No one´s ever asked me that¨she confided. Just coming back from Snow-world in Landgraaf with her children, she was out for a quick grocery run as she would be hosting 13 people in her house that night. She made for lovely shots and a radiant smile.

Danique and Masakazu
Maastricht, 3-12-2022
(sorry if I’m misspelling your names)She’s from Eindhoven, he’s from Japan. He’s here for two weeks, and they were so adorably in love. At first I was too shy to even ask them, and didn’t want to run after them as they passed me by. When they returned a bit later to the park, I scraped the guts to ask if they wanted to pose for me, and luckily they loved to. They met last year on his student exchange and had not seen each other since. Enjoy the time together!

Below are the hires-jpgs without watermark. You’ll need to click them one by one, then click the i-icon to see shutter information etc, on that expanded view you can right-click “view full size”, and thenchoose “Save link as…” to store them. I’ll leave them here for a few weeks and then remove them as they are about 21mb each. If you’d want, you could make posters the size of a wall and still not see pixels 🤓 Enjoy!

When the night

When the night
comes as early as six in December
reflections in the pond, trigger
percolating thoughts in my head.
The enlightened path I can see so clearly
in my garden,
I cannot find in my mind.

This is not a Strammer Max

It´s a Nutcracker, part of the x-mas market in Strassbourgh.
A very thorough buffer area of police check points, followed by people carefree eating and sitting around. Then… the bombastic Strassbourgh is reflected on the many decorated store fronts. As the rest of Strassbourgh – a tad ott to my taste.
Note to self: capture the contrasts next time, leverage the gut feel as it comes, and snapshot it, rather than ignore it at the moment, then later on coming to the conclusion that it was there all along and I missed shooting it.

PS Strammer Max is a lunch of eggs sunny side up on ham and cheese sandwich. In the Netherlands we call it “uitsmijter”, which is our word for bouncer at a night club.

Sunrise, sunrise

The stalks lost their leaves, mostly.
Caught the sunrise: the sun broke out from behind the clouds.
Warmly dressed, I woke up, too.
